The Oakland Zoo in Oakland, California recently announced that they would begin renting out their monkeys for removing lice from children and adults alike. “Most lice removal is expensive and is extremely painful for the customer,” says Erin Harrison, the Senior Manager of PR & Advertising at the Oakland Zoo, “The baboons have found a way to make it an enjoyable experience.”
Currently, only 6 monkeys area available for hire, but the zoo hopes to have 15 available by the end of July. The moneys cost a little more than 15 dollars per hour, a bargain compared to the $200 or more per hour that other lice removal services charge.
Training the monkeys has been slow, because they keep wanting to throw their poop at their clients.
“Training the monkeys has been slow, because they keep wanting to throw their poop at their clients,” says zookeeper Mike Sabet as he dodges flying monkey feces, “It would be a real problem if they behaved this way to a client. Absolutely horrible.”
